So What's the Deal with Dragons Anyway?

Quote: There are three possible views about these glorious animals:
  1. They are completely legendary
  2. They are largely legendary
  3. They really existed

I take the third view.

That quote came from the book "The Flight of Dragons" by Peter Dickenson. This book is basically a collection of scientific facts which suggest that dragons really existed. Maybe not now, but long ago.
Critics could quite easily dismiss this though, I mean, how could ninety foot long lizards possibly function, let alone fly

  1. Dragons could fly because most of their bodies were hollow and filled with lighter than air gas
  2. Dragons needed an enormous body to hold enough gas to provide lift for the total weight of the beast
  3. Dragons did not need enormous wings, because they only used them for propulsion and manoeuvering
  4. Dragons breathed fire because they had to. It was a necessary part of their specialised mode of flight.

And if dragons didn't exist, why the mention of them? St George and the Dragon, Beowulf, Fairy Tales, Myths, Old Wives Tales!

Dragons existed. Full Stop.
