The Flight of Dragons



PLOT SYNOPSIS The Middle Ages are coming to an end, and as man begins to pull himself from the dark grasp of ignorance, he turns to logic and science to improve himself. This bodes ill for the Green Wizard Carolinus and his magician brothers, for as the world's inclinations turn from magic to logic, their powers are placed in jeopardy. Three of the brothers decide to pool their resources to create a "last realm of magic", where magicians and enchanted beings can live out the Age of Science in peace. The fourth brother, however, has other plans. His name is Omedon, and his magic focuses on bringing out the evil in human souls. He sees the potential for personal power in the emergence of science, and desires to usher in a new era filled with technological innovation, but laced with moral corruption.

His brothers, of course, must stop him. Unfortunately, the only way to do so is to take Omedon's crown from his head, thus cutting him off from the source of his power. Since they cannot intervene directly, they decide to assemble a Quest composed of mortals. Sir Owen Neville-Smithe and Gorbash the dragon are more than fit for the task, but a third is needed before a Quest can "officially" begin. So, Carolinus consults Antiquity, and discovers a modern man, a man of science no less, who is somehow qualified to lead the party. Travelling through time, Carolinus finds the man, whose name is Peter Dickinson, and magically whisks him away.

Peter does not appear to be the hero that Carolinus had hoped for, but still the Quest must go on! However, in a freak accident involving an attempt by Omedon's dragon Bryagh to kidnap Peter, Carolinus accidentally merges the man with the dragon Gorbash.

The story continues from there, with the Companions encountering several adventures along the way to the Loathly Tower and the Crown of Omedon
